Murky Divers Review
Murky Divers Review
Murky Divers is an underwater survival horror co-op reminiscent of Lethal Company but instead of being in space it sends players into the ocean’s depths to collect dismembered body parts and destroy evidence for money. The game has already had quite an experience to offer its steadily growing community. Players find themselves in weird, alien, spaghetti bodies, dropped in a submarine, and just about zero direction. There’s the submarine piloting controls, the sonar, a vending machine.
Murky Divers does offer a solo mode, but the process of figuring out what exactly players are supposed to do when dropped into this sub is a lot less fun when there’s no one to goof off with.
The sub itself is a cool environment, especially since it also changes depending on the number of players. It has beds and stuffed animals – all of which can be interacted with – and the way to change cosmetics is by quite literally climbing into a shower.
There are multiple biomes players can explore. however, get a bit repetitive. The designs of Murky Divers’ creatures are nothing short of horrifying and hilarious. There’s the Reaper that has a terrifying face that is pure nightmare-fuel, the Selfish Sun that can only be described as a Flat Stanley monster, and the particularly annoying translucent Water Bear that will eat players if they get too close.
Luckily, the sub can take damage. There’s an infinite-spawning wrench that players can use to patch up the holes. If the enemy that crashed into them was the police, however, there’s no repairing that increased wanted level. The only way to decrease a wanted level is by purchasing a bribe from the vending machine for $600 that will knock off one star from their wanted level. It’s less satisfying, however, that players can’t really perform actions without dropping what they’re holding, which isn’t ideal when everything is underwater, and things can easily float away. It’s also too easy to lose body parts, whether it’s dropping them and them floating away in seconds, or any encounter with the particularly pesky Sea Monkey. The Sea Monkey will grab anything out of a player’s hands and will speed away at a rate that a player’s limited stamina will struggle to catch up with.
