The Headliners Game Review

You know those classic scenes from alien invasion or kaiju movies where the hero wanders through ruined city streets, surrounded by rubble and destruction? Buildings are crumbled, the city’s been hammered, and there’s a newspaper floating by with a blurry pic of a giant monster wreaking havoc. Ever wonder who snapped that photo?

That’s you, in The Headliners. You play as a gutsy photojournalist diving straight into the chaos. Go it alone or team up with up to seven friends to capture insane shots of an alien invasion taking over New York. The streets are crawling with deadly monsters, and reporters like you are the only source of info — every photo counts, and only the best make the front page. So grab your camera, find the wildest moments, and make sure you make it back alive. Your camera definitely won’t walk itself home.

Behind the Lens: How the Headliners Plays

Before each mission, you start at base choosing your photographer and buying gear. Want a camera with better zoom or more storage? Maybe a faster sprint or a trap to save your skin? You decide — but remember, upgrades come with trade-offs. Your team shares cash, so pick wisely or just throw on everything you can and look like you mean business.

Your job? Hit a points goal within three runs in a city zone. Points come from the photos you take, with multipliers for cool stuff like explosions, close calls, or monsters tearing things up. But here’s the kicker — your camera has to make it back to the helicopter for your photos to count. Die and lose your camera? Those shots are lost forever.

There are five zones to explore, each with rising danger. The level layouts repeat a lot, but enemy placements and chaos change randomly. You’ll snap pics of aliens attacking civilians — or your own teammates! There’s even a bonus for capturing friends getting mauled, so having clumsy pals isn’t all bad. Watching someone get tossed around by a tentacle monster while cameras click away is pure comedy.

Each mission lasts just 10 minutes, so you gotta move fast. The longer you hang around, the crazier it gets — making the risk vs. reward choice tense and exciting. Plus, the not-so-competent military shows up to stir the pot, adding even more chaos. When time’s up, race back to the chopper, cash in your points, and see if you beat the level. The best photo gets front-page honors back at base, so save your top shots!

Some downsides: scoring can feel a bit random at times, and certain enemies, like the rock-throwing kaiju, can be frustratingly tough to dodge. Also, the reused rooms can make the zones feel repetitive after a while.

Wrapping It Up

Still, like games such as REPO and Lethal Company have shown, it’s not about how big the game is — it’s about what you do with it and who you play with. The content might be light, but The Headliners delivers a wild, fun, and polished experience. Grab some friends and give it a shot — it’s definitely worth your time.
