*NOTE: I do not own any of the rights to the queen franchise. I am not in partner with Bohemian Rhapsody movie. I am not in partner with Spotify.*

My Rating:

5 out of 5

My opinion:

I will say it was a 5 out of 5 not for complete historical accuracy but for the overall good movie. The actors were well picked. They did a phenomenal job. The historical accuracy was of course off by a couple of years for certain things. The critiques said the movie didn’t portray the sexuality of Mercury correctly. This is just simply untrue. They portrayed his homosexual preference more than they portrayed his love for Mary. Obviously, the songs were amazing and if you see it, you will want to sing along with the movie. The film had a lot of funny moments.

Plot:

In 1970, Freddie Mercury Formerly named Farrokh Balsara, went to a nightclub to watch a band play. Balsara introduces himself to brian and Rodger and offers to sing for them after their lead vocalist quits. They gain a new bassist, John Deacon, they start performing in local gigs under the new name Queen.

They eventually sell their van in order to produce a debut album. They get signed with EMI records. Around this time, Farrokh changes his name to Freddie Mercury. He also gets engaged to Mary Austin.

During the U.S. tour, Freddie starts to question his sexuality. in 1975, Queen is to release “Night at the Opera.” but then when Ray Foster refuses to release “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Freddie has a DJ play it on airwaves.

After the world tour, Freddie begins to have a sexual relationship with Paul. He comes out as bisexual to a clearly distraught Mary. She tells him that he is gay.

The band’s success continues through to the early 1980s, but tensions arise between the band members over the direction of their music and a change in Freddie’s attitude. In 1981, after a lavish party in Freddie’s home, he falls in love with Jim Hutton, one of the waiters at the party. They shortly part ways, with Jim telling Freddie to look for him when he learns to like himself.

The band’s press conference to promote their 1982 album is taken over by the press, who bombard Freddie with questions on his personal life and sexuality. Freddie’s relationship with his bandmates sours when he announces that he signed a $4 million deal.

He moves to Germany in 1984 to work on his first solo album while perticipating in gay orgies with Paul. One night, a married and pregnant Mary visits Freddie to ask him to return and make amends with the band. As well as to perform at Live Aid. Upon discovering that Paul withheld this news from him, an enraged Freddie severs ties with him.

In retaliation, Paul goes public about Freddie’s sexual escapades. With the outbreak of AIDS spreading worldwide, Freddie secretly has himself medically checked and discovers that he is infected with the disease.

Freddie returns to London to ask for forgiveness from his bandmates and current manager Jim; they reconcile and are given a last-minute slot in Live Aid. During a rehearsal, Freddie reveals to his bandmates that he has AIDS. They appreciate that he told them. On the day of Live Aid, he reunites with Hutton and Mary and then reconnects with his family. Queen’s Live Aid performance is a massive success, helping increase the rate of donations during the event.

Following Freddie’s death from AIDS in 1991, Beach and the remaining members of Queen create the Mercury Phoenix Trust to help combat the spread of AIDS worldwide.
